In 2018, The Trade Group came to Momentum with the DR Horton Sales Center in a Box project. Subdivisions that DR Horton were building would have a model home with the garage turned into a sales center, while the rest of the home would be staged with household furnishings as new home buyers toured the site. At the recommendation of the man himself, D.R. Horton, the decision was made to create a structure that would allow cohesiveness in the DR Horton brand throughout all subdivisions. The Trade Group was chosen to fabricate this structure and we partnered with them to provide install & dismantle labor. The onsite challenges proved to be anything from google maps not being able to direct us to the home with an address so new it wasn’t inputted yet into a map system, to occasions where we would show up and while the home would be built, the driveway would not be poured, or many other construction jurisdictions were working in the garage simultaneously, to working through hurricane force winds or even one time, when the garage was being used a storage area for construction materials. As the Sales Center in a Box program became more popular and DR Horton subdivisions were selling out, the overall project took on a secondary path when we were asked to dismantle one Sales Center in a Box structure from one model home and reinstall in another model home in a different subdivision, sometimes in the same city, something in a different state.
02 . The Solution
Momentum trained individual laborers in each market to be able to take on the detailed install and dismantle of the Sales Center in a Box units. To supplement the set up instructions that The Trade Group provided, we created a supplemental document to assist our field teams with nuances specific to this project. During our 2018 management meeting, we visited one of the subdivisions with a completed Sales Center in a Box so that all of our Ops team could seen one first-hand. Momentum also created a position within our corporate office for someone responsible for managing and scheduling all DR Horton projects. For the install/dismantle moves between subdivisions, we have increased our involvement by also taking on the direct communication with the marketing teams within each subdivision, coordinating the transportation arrangements and making contact with the subdivision contractors in advance of install/dismantle to insure the home is ready for our arrival.
To date, we have completed almost 1,000 Sales Center in a Box successful installs, dismantles and moves.
